Greetings friends,

My friends computer recently had a power surge and through diagnosis I was able to determine almost all components had some sort of intermittent or permanent fault. I replaced essentially the whole PC with a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU. However there is an incredibly annoying and frustrating problem that keeps occurring. When booting the OS (Win 7) from completely off windows aero does not function at all and the PC runs extremely sluggish when doing the simplest tasks such as watching videos or even re sizing windows. However a restart fixes this problem and the PC works as normal after the initial turn on and reboot.

I automatically assumed it was a graphics card fault but when replacing the 770gtx with a spare 550ti the same problem occurs. I had tried installing the OS on different drives ssds and regular hard drives and the problem still persists! Today I decided to simply try to clear the CMOS and see if that made any difference and on first boot without loading bios defaults it worked!! However upon restart and loading bios defaults the problem came back. I do not know what to do please help me.

Here is a list of the entire build.
no overclocking has been done.

AMD FX-6300
ASrock 980DE3/U3S3 R2.0
Kingston HyperX FURY Blue HX316C10FK2/8 8G Kit (4Gx2) DDR3 1600MHz
250GB Samsung 840 EVO
EVGA 770GTX
Corsair CS650M PSU

P.S
All temps are within the norm for GPU and CPU(aftermarket cooler installed) and stress testing with prime95 and GPUtest came up with no errors.

Thank you for reading this long post I just wanted to put down as much detail as I could.

Hello, I also had the problem you have with the Asrock 980DE3/U3S3 (rev 1.0) motherboard (mounted with a AMD Fx6300), which make videos and games jerky and stuttering after a first boot.

I contacted Asrock about this problem and they told me to update the Bios with the beta 1.60G (this beta adjust the CPU voltage to 1.25v)

after installed this Bios beta version, the problem disappeared.

here is the link for the 1.60G beta Bios :

for peoples who own the Asrock 980DE3/u3s3 [g]rev 2.0[/g] you must try the P1.00C beta bios :

Tried different memory channel did not work. Also there is only one bios revision available from ASrock for this board

I wouldn't imagine the Pci-e being bad but it's unfortunate that there is only one available to test other than making sure the timings and everything are right on the memory I would maybe try to re install windows if possible although I know it can be a pain in the butt but it may be the last thing you can try before RMA'ing the board.

this was the reinstall haha. it had similar problems on win 8.1 pro as well so we reverted to win 7 to see if it was simply win 8.1 not liking the board. Oh man i dont wanna take it apart again haha.

thanks for ur help though

Solution
Hi, I have the same board, cpu and SSD as you and have desktop screen flashing, disappearing, shunting to one side. Probs with booting etc. have latest non-beta bios. Ready to throw this new board, not happy asRock! Tried 2 diff vid cards, same issues, seems ok until win 8.1 does its 123 or so updates then plays up badly. Will try beta bios tomorrow

Hey guys, i have a Asrock 980DE3/u3s3 [g]rev 2.0[/g motherboard and same problems with windows visualizations. Benn struggling for months with this nonsense. Only beta upgrade of bios worked like you suggested. Dont know if it works on Win7 or Win 8. 8.1 but this works on Windows 10 for sure. Thanks!
