Anyone encountered this? I have a stable system but, if Increase the cpu voltage slightly then xp won't restart. Instead the monitor powers off as usual but, never wakes up. The computer hangs with all drive lights lit up.
Undo the voltage change and all is stable again. This is not due to overheating as the core temp is a healthy 40 celsius.
Motherboard is Gigabyte GA7VA with AMD xp2400+.

Any help really appreciated. :)

Why are you increasing the voltage of your cpu? you shouldn't unless you need to gain stability from overclocking.

To err is human... to really screw things up you need a computer!

yep, was overclocking and had to increase voltage to gain stability at 147mhz. I thought that this was causing the reset problem so rolled back the clock frequency but, left the voltage the same (ie slightly increased). The reset problem still existed.

Yeah you shouldn't overvolt your processor unless you are currently overclocking. So set it back to the normal level and hopefully that will fix the problem. OVervolting in general is not a good idea, but sometimes it just can't be avoided.

BWAHAHAHA says Crashman the mad overclocker while running a PIII 1000EB coppermine at 1.95v and 1307MHz, then a Celeron 1.1 Tualatin at 1.85v and 1650MHz.

Well, it's not exactly XP that is the problem. What I would do if I were you, is look at your PSU rails, especially the 3.3v and see if they are all running within stable means. If your overclock is causing your PSU to faulter, your computer will start, run just fine, last through the tests you put it through, but could very possibly not let you perform a warm boot.
Good luck...
