Increasing FSB. How far?

My system is:

AMD Athlon XP 1500+
ASUS A7V266 DDR
256 MB DDR RAM (Samsung, non CL-2)

I want to speed up the FSB a little, but the BIOS only allows to increase FSB and PCI at the same time. What kind of PCI freq is dangerous for my HDD, DVD-ROM, CD-RW devices and PCI cards (Audigy and Realtek network adapter)?

How fast I can go while still staying safe?

Thanx

A7V266 doesnt allow you to set PCI/FSB ratios, nor does it support 1/5 PCI divider.

So whatever FSB you set, dont let your PCI speeds go past 40~42 MHz, thats 160-166 MHz on the FSB. Theres no problem with most of the devices, but IDE tends to trash your data at high transfer speeds. Plus, make sure you have a good AGP card, that can work at above 90 MHz, usually AGP speed is 1/2 or 2/3 of FSB, in this case its 1/2 which makes AGP speed 83 MHz. Many older AGP cards fail at these speeds.

I have a GF4 Ti 4400 Deluxe, so that's good enough, I guess.

How soon does IDE start trashing my data? After 42 MHz?

Depends on the quality of the SouthBridge... just keep away from 40MHz PCI (above 160MHz FSB) to be save.

My PC eats so much money that I'm in 'desperate' need of it to buy PC3500 RAM, help Svol with his OC project!

Okay, is 38MHz PCI safe?

I'm currently running at 145/36 FSB/PCI and no problems so far. Not even any temperature changes.

he has one of the infamous south bridge lines, the VIA southbridges, they sometimes trash data even at nominal speeds.

just make sure you have the latest VIA 4in1 driver updates
