ASUS Q304UAK with Intel Core i5 7200 OU at 2.5 GHZ, 6GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB Samsung SATA-3 SSD drive about half full, Windows 10 Home Premium, updates current.

I tried to upgrade from 6 GB RAM DDR4-2133 to 20 GB RAM (only one slot available) by replacing the 2GB factory installed Samsung with a 16GB Hynix DDR4-2400. My benchmark performance declined. Boot up and running programs is not noticeably different.

Here are links to the benchmarks, both run earlier today:

6GB RAM:

20 GB RAM:

I don't understand why performance hasn't improved. Would pairing the built-in 4GB with a 4GB removable chip and/or using DDR4-2133 instead of DDR4-2400 speed things up? Same question with an 8GB chip?

And does the chip speed or manufacturer make a difference?

Thanks in advance.

The RAM is configuration is mismatched. If the system is running in Flex Mode, then only 8GB out of the 20 is running in dual-channel. The rest is running in single. Either Userbench is testing the entire memory space, or most of it is landing in the single channel space.

You should buy RAM with the same specs as much as possible for the best performance.
