Increasing RAM desktop

Hello,

Currently have x2 4gb AD3U1600W4G11-B of RAM on my desktop. Would like to increase my RAM to 16gb by adding x1 8gb AD3U1600W8G11-B of RAM. I have 2 slots available however 1 is blocked by a cooler fan so hoping to money by only getting x1 8gb RAM instead of x2. Could this, if possible, be achieved please?

If the motherboard accepts 8Gb ram sticks, then no issues, some older motherboards only accept upto 4Gb sticks, so it all depends on your motherboard.

Simplest way for non tec savvy users is to install and run belarc advisor.

https://www.belarc.com/products_belarc_advisor

Its free to use for domestic use and will give you a motherboard model in the easy to read report.

Or can use speccy from piriform.com, same place to get ccleaner. Either will give a pretty comprehensive description of exactly what is in your pc.
