If I want to increase my RAM to 16GB, do I have to buy 2 Nos. of 8 GB RAM (currently maybe 4GB x 4GB - I need to check inside the pc)

1st thing: Look inside at the motherboard and make sure there's 4 RAM slots.

Most likely, the mobo can accept 16GB, just a matter of whether there's 2 or 4 slots

Do you know the specific model of this Dell?

Is this an Optiplex, XPS, other?


The easiest thing would be to power the unit down, take off the side cover and look to see how many slots you have on the mobo.

Go here and run the scanner.
It will show the max ram and what you have.

Go to the crucial ram upgrade site and enter the make/model of your pc.

Looks like you would need to replace ram with a 2 x 8gb DDR3 L 1600 kit
