Increasing size of SSD and keeping OS (Windows 7)

I have a crucial (250GB) SSD already installed. However, I have now purchased a Samsung EVO (500GB) SSD

What I would like to do is keep only the OS on the original 250GB SSD and copy my games and games pertinent programmes on to the 500GB SSD (everything else is already stored on a 2 TB HHD.

My question is how can I copy my games etc from the original SSD (leaving only the OS) and copy it to the new SSD?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Hey there Richmand. Basically the procedure is the same as making the jump from an HDD to an SSD. You could take a look at this thread here: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows.
It has basically all the info you need for this procedure.

If you have any other questions - let me know.
Hope that helps.

Hi Boogieman,

Thanks for that but my problem does not seem to be addressed there. I have no files on the SSD as they are on a seperate HDD. I do, however, have programs (when I say programs, I mean games etc) on the original SSD.

What I want to do is be able to remove these programs which are on the SSD (C: drive) and put them onto the new and larger SSD drive leaving only the Op. Sys on the orignal SSD

Oh, I see now. From what I understood you wanted to move the games to the HDD and then transfer the OS to the new SSD.
How are the games installed? I mean did you use Steam or any other platform, or you just installed them via a DVD/Blu-Ray? For Steam games you could take a look at this thread: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129&l=English
If it's another platform then I'm afraid you should look for a specific way so that no conflicts arise after you move the folders.
On the other hand if the games are installed in a traditional way - via a DVD/Blu-Ray etc., you should be OK with just moving the games by copy - pasting them as long as the OS and the User Folders remain on the same drive as they were up until now (which is OK in your case as the OS and User Folders will remain where they were up until now) so that there are no conflicts with the settings of some games and saved game files (please note that even this is not 100% percent guaranteed that it will work for all games).

Hi Boogieman,

No, not exactly……..

I currently have a 250GB SSD installed and on this drive I have the OS (Windows 7) and Star Citizen (SC) + associated programs such as TeamSpeak, IR Tracking etc etc.

I also have two 1TB HDD, one of which has Steam and other games installed on it and the second is for work etc etc.

However, due to the continued requirement for disk space by both SC and the OS my SSD is almost full (all but 5GB), this will of course slow the SSD and does not allow for further updates to be installed.

I purchased a 500GB SSD and plan to install that as well. My idea (I thought was simple) was to remove/copy SC and its associated files and programs from the original 250GB SSD, leaving room for OS updates etc and then paste the SC files onto the new 500GB SSD and thereby future proofing room for further updates for SC

Well, what do you think ?

Yes, thats the ticket. Nice one Boogieman it appears to be working and I am in the process of getting rid of other rubbish that has built up on the boot drive. I have already got 59 GB free on OS drive, Thanks mate
