Inevitable - stuck at 5 points

I've opened the ziggurat (but its dark), lowered the edging with the
disk assembly (have no idea to what end), made the 16 pillars march
around. Things I'm pretty much stuck on:
.. the signifance of the button in the east tower
.. should I be able to reach somehow the opening on the avenue wall
below the east channel
.. the #$^$@ box in the west tower. Yes this one frustrates me. I have
tried this both in HARDER and EASIER mode and while I can see I need to
put the game board in the hole in HARDER mode and also add the disk and
plug it, I still don't get what to do with it. I can shoot it and make
water come out. I take it the white powder is salt. I've tried putting
both brandy and seawater in this. I suppose its supposed to make some
sort of battery like thing but I don't remember basic chemistry so
maybe this is my problem and not sure what I would do with this as it
is immovable.
.. how to get light into the stairs in the ziggurat (or does this depend
on solving the box first)

This is the puzzle you should be working on right now.

What does the box contain? What would seem to be missing?

Pillars??? What pillars??? Help!!

Also still stuck with the box in the west tower so would appreciate
another hint.

I have taken a good look in the box. There are two disks missing.

I have added the tattered disk and the token to the post (in that
order). However I am not convinced that the token will work as it is
the wrong colour - it should be silver. I have tried cleaning it and
polishing it but that has not worked. I have then closed the box and
zapped it wih my pistol, but that doesn't do more than produce a quick
burst of water.

I can't think of anything else that might be missing.

There is a hole, which I have plugged.

There is salt. I have filled the box with water to make brine. But
that seems to make no difference, even if I zap the box with the
pistol. Should I have done something different?
