I have a Evga x58 sli le motherboard. It recognizes the memory in bios and cpu-z, also in windows 8 64bit. I've tried the msconfig uncheck memory option. I've tried changing the bios settings for memory speed also no luck. I updated the bios via Evga website. And obviously I'm still stuck at the same conclusion. I recently upgraded to Windows 8 as a fresh install full format. Windows 7 64bit recognized the memory correctly. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

(edit)
2x4 gb sticks of corsair memory don't remember the exact model.

Solution
Well so go the best laid plans of mice and men.... It's resolved ! Now I'm not 100% certain the exact reasoning behind this but I do believe gferrin2012 you deserve to have the answer more so than myself this thread we've covered the works together and I want to put everything in here for others.
The energy spent by you helping me resolve this issue was amazing so here's how my Saturday night went.
I had setup my memory speeds at static and in changing them back somehow had disabled the O.C. dummy feature of the board so I ended up pulling my memory and both gpus ssd hhd all out got my good old made in USA compressed air cue tips and rubbing alcohol esd strap and delayed dinner for an hour lol. I pulled memory cleaned (moved them...
Hey buddy, i remember this post from a while back...sounds like you have a good understanding..so i don't want to be insulting in any way, but are the sticks put in dual channel configuration..second, have you run any type of memtest?

Thanks for the input guys. I did run memtest, I didn't verify dual channel configuration didn't think of that... Not sure how that would change upgrading to 8 when the setting worked 7 Unless I fixed the issue and started another. I'll have to look into that tonight. As far as memory settings go I had them over clocked then went to auto per research about the memory speed being a issue then manually selected my speed. Was actually the last thing I tried before posting. Appreciate the feedback no worries on insulting me apparently I missed something and need help I better results willing to accept it lol

OK, so I am running dual channel - cpu-z reads DDR3 8GB, things that make me go hym....

Any reason the OS (win 8) would allocate or reserve for a feature related to my SSD or gpu ?

Hey buddy, I bet we can figure this out today, anyway can you post a screenshot of your memory stats from performance monitor. Not task manager, performance monitor. This will tell us were that memory is. You have probably seen this area, it has the green graphs. besides, it may not hurt to have two people researching it, and I am one of those strange people that like 8.1.
Here is what I mean, need to see where the memory is, is it allocated or unallocated, Is it being used? and where. Where does the system stop acknowledging it, or what is using it. This should not be to big of a deal. I thought this would be an easy issue, but apparently this may be an odd one.

Thanks for the reply, I won't be home until later this evening I discovered last night super late and not sure where it showed up at but says 4.** gb reserved if that helps us. Thanks again guys really appreciate the help. Maybe later I'll remote desktop and look at a few things to help.

I have corsair cmz8gx3m2a1600c9b
1600mhz 9-9-9-24 version 2.12 im going to look it up now on compatibility list.
not sure how you upload here or if it needs to be external link took a picture.

I'm gonna bank it is compatible. The issue that I am seeing on the research, is it damaged? perhaps not, but we need to find out why it is being held as reserved. Apparently the standard stuff is not working. Lemme dig a little deeper. I am having this feeling, did you install the 64 bit version, 32 and 64 come on the same installation disk, I hear it is supposed to install the correct one, but on the other hand, it's supposed to work just fine too!

Thanks for the reply, I did test them and just a bit ago I went through Evga forums and read similar issues. I've manually selected speeds and voltages along with a few others I'm starting to fear it's cpu related....

Hesitant to go there, can you verify it is the 64 bit version installed? I would leave all clocks set to default. Set everything to default, I have found it much easier to diagnose a unit in a normal "should work" state, them adjusting things on the fly, just a suggestion..also the fact that all you did was install a new os and this problem occurred leads me in that direction.

this just takes a second. then let's move on!

It is definitely 64bit, I can post a screen capture when I return home again. (don't hesitate on any questions even the greatest of all minds will make a mistake and if I'm asking for help I should assume you'll ask questions to retrieve the information needed to answer it). I don't recall the exact number listed in windows 7. I do however have a spare drive still loaded with a 7 64bit in a drive Bay of the pc from my ssd upgrade a year or so ago. So I could potentially retrieve that information if it's critical to our cause. The more I read on this topic and more towards hardware it seems the 920 i7 has seen a share of memory related issues along with the x58 chipset. The fear of failing is nothing to that of the fear generated knowing you cannot succeed ~David Krista

Reading that last post I tripped on my feet I found a second thing mentioned in the original support question that wouldn't seem be related but with eyes open one sees things normally not found. This is a academic distributed copy of Windows 8.1 is there something I'm unaware of that could relate to academic versions?

Hmm, I don't know. Lets find out. Just found out ..nope. Went to microsoft tech chat, they say there is no difference, in fact if you have the pro edition you can run "a lot more" then 16 GB's. According to them.

I can tell you only what I would do at this point, it seems you have checked all the software issue's from previous post's, I would pull the graphics card out, uninstall all drivers, restart system, check my stats, if ok, then re-install video card and all drivers, I am not saying that would fix anything, but at this point, it does not cost any money or down time to do this (well, a few minutes). In other words I would be going component to component eliminating the usual culprits.

I didn't relocate them from they're current channels as with my cpu cooler currently I'm unable to get these sticks with the large heat sinks under the cooler and fan. I did pull them blow them and the slots off and re-set them back to there original slots.

You may not have got the post ahead of your last, the remove gpu, test system, reinstall would only work with an intel cpu of course, Perhaps it is not ram, software somehow, although you covered that pretty dang good. You must be pretty patient, because I would be looking for the special tool called a "hammer". Naw, just messing with you, try the video card, got to find out what the software says it needs to reserve four GB's for.

I'll be unavailable to dissect it more until Sunday at some point, I really appreciate the energy and effort helping me with this issue. I'll post back tomorrow when I've made it back to my pc.

Thanks,
David

Wow, just sat down when this popped up! O.K buddy here from you then.

I pulled memory cleaned (moved them out of double channel) they are now in the last to dim slots in the last bay furthest from CPU, pulled gpus cleaned ( Running SLI it covers the bios reset button) clean, clean, clean, clean) I then manually changed all my static settings booted and windows 8 wasn't really happy with me and repaired. Rebooted omfg how many times before windows 8 and I started with a understanding I was going to win...( HAMMER IN HAND). I wasn't even paying attention to the memory issue friend asked me to play some games this morning I checked to see how much memory was being used with the game and Spotify and its a good thing I was sitting down !!!!!! Most people would disappear at this point but I was born into this world and I know the frustration, the problem is resolved but how?
