infected Hard drive

Hello my dell inspiron has a virus infected hard drive, and it changed the bios settings so that I cannot use usbs or cds to boot off of and just shows the dell loading symbol and reboots, how can I solve this problem without buying a new hard drive ??

I'm not sure that's a virus

If you can still get into windows normally (if I correctly understand, you cannot boot from usb/cd since it just shows a loading symbol), run a program named combofix. Google combofix and should be first link.

well the problem is it just continuously shows the opening screen and shutting down and restarting, a never ending cycle till I take out the battery

Did you run an extended diagnostic (F12 at powerup) on the hard drive?

Yes, I was able to access the diagnostic, but when it was completed it said there was nothing wrong, so I took a old Norton disk and booted it, off of that, the option does not show when there is no cd in the drive, anyways after that I was able to factory reset, anyways thanks for the support
