Hello everyone,

Looking for some help as I havent been following the market much the last few years.

Bought this in 2015:
4440k, 16ram, 256ssd, 970gtx.

I work with it now (own company) so instead of just changing a piece or 2, might as well change the whole tower and keep this old one as a backup.

Now, onto the new rig...

Not gaming as much as I use to, but still do from time to time.

My son-in-law has a 1660 from his old mining rig (less than a year of use) that I'll be getting for cheap. 1x8 Corsair also that I might use (unsure yet of the speed). MB is a z170a and the cpu is a Celeron so wont be using these. I might use the PS (not sure what it is yet).

Approximate Purchase Date: this week

Budget Range: under 1000$ CAD would be nice

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Work and gaming from time to time when I have time (Cities Skylines)

Are you buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade: brand new build basically, except possibly the GPU, 1 stick of RAM and a PS.

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: been working with partspicker and most stuff I've checked so far (cpu, mb) are cheaper on newsegg, but any website works.

Location: Québec/QC/Canada

Parts Preferences: None

Overclocking:
No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Your Monitor Resolution: using 920x1080 atm

Additional Comments: none

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: need to have a capable backup computer for the stuff I have (my own company). Upgrading also to be able to run Cities Skylines maxed out (or close to it) or running it without lag would be nice.

Also, last night, began hearing an odd noise that I thought was the SSD giving up. Rebooted, and it kept doing the same. Today, it makes that noise when I reboot, up to the Windows screen. After that, it stops.

I've been wanting to get a new rig for a year now but been way to busy with my startup. I do have a couple weeks now to get it setup, plus I need to get it done anyway as a precaution.

Include a list of any parts you have already selected with descriptively labeled links for parts.

This is what I identified so far.

Feel free to tell me I'm all wrong and should with this part or that part.

Whats the highest speed ram wise with this MB (assuming I'd go with this MB).

Thanks,

Marc

Any feedback for the build I posted above: how can it be enhanced?

Is the AMD build a better buy than the Intel one? If so, why?

Curious to learn.

i5-12400 is essentially the same performance as an AMD 5600/5600X.
