Initial PC Setup - Black Screen, no BIOS, Sometimes Login, Ubuntu 18.04

I'm having several glitches along the way of setting up my PC. Installed Ubuntu 18.04 successfully and have gotten some use out of the machine (i.e. all the components seem to be not-fried and plugged in correctly, though I managed to forget my anti-static strap once or twice for short periods during assembly). Had some bumps with getting the updates installed, but some use of terminal got me to the point where I wasn't getting error messages. However, I'm not as happy with Ubuntu as I had hoped (sad day), so I would like to do a blanket install of Windows 10 as a replacement (I have a USB stick formatted to Windows with a flash of the Windows 10 iso). Major problems that I've had from the start are impeding this process, primarily black screen on start-up (a) and an inability to boot into the BIOS or choose an alternate startup disk (b):

  • a) Most of the time when I power on the computer I get a black screen. The computer seems to "go to sleep" with Esc and Ctrl/Alt/Del and "wake up" with enter (backlighting on the keyboard dims/brightens and the system fans change speed). This is the typical response when I power up the system. It seems to prefer to have a single monitor set-up upon power up and seems to prefer DVI over HDMI (I don't have a handy VGA cable).

    b) I have attempted to boot into the BIOS but have been unable to do so. I made use of Grub Customizer to try to instruct the system to boot from the USB copy of windows, but this seems to have made it more insistent on giving me the black screen. F2 and Esc haven't done the trick, though I could perhaps go through the other permutations including F1 and F12.

On deciding that I wanted to install Windows over Ubuntu I formatted a USB with the Windows iso and used Grub Customizer to order the startup sequence to begin with the USB with iso. Now I am only ever getting the black screen. Since then I've done the following:

  • 1) Tried installing a different HD as the primary - no change.
    2) Reset the CMOS - no change.
    3) Idiot install of the System Speaker, but no sounds are coming through.
    4) Currently the machine is running and I'll let it continue on the off-chance that it just needs some time.

System Hardware:
  • AMD Ryzen 3 2200G (Could need the BIOS update? The Motherboard says "no" but...)
    ASRock AB350M Pro 4
Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2667 2x4GB (installed in slots 2&4 as indicated for higher than 2400)
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
MSI Radeon RX 560 Aero ITX 4G OC GPU
    Kingston A400 SSD 120GB
Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD 1TB
LG Electronics Internal Super Multi Drive GH24NSC0B
Fancasee 4-Pin PWM Fan Power Supply Cable 1 to 5 way Fan Hub
    5x 12L APEVIA Case Fans
    DIY-TG8-BW
    TeckNet Gryphon Keyboard
    TeckNet Professional Optical Mouse
    Rosewill ARC Series 750W PSU
Dell Flatscreen Monitor (Ancient, I don't even know the exact make)
    Westinghouse 24" LED TV 1080P

I think the only software that I've used includes the following:
  • Firefox
    Thunderbird
    Terminal
    Steam
    Grub Customizer
    Disks
Gah! Can't remember the software I used to write the iso to USB...

Apologies for the data overload, but hoping to make things as smooth as possible
