I was trying to install windows 10 but before formatting or installing I tried my chances with troubleshooting errors and windows trying to save the start-up error that caused all of the problem. While doing the troubleshooting, it seemed stuck after 5 hours and I just restarted my computer. Since then even if I create a new usb bootable with Rufus it always stucks on BSOD (blue screen of death). Now I am clueless. Maybe troubleshoot changed some bios settings so I have resetted them back to default but still the option to have new installation doesnt show now. I see the Windows logo loading, but after that it is just stuck.

I don't think thats a BSOD... its just a blue screen

Windows looks broken... I don't think its booting off the USB, it could still be trying to run windows. And not getting anywhere.

what make/model laptop? MIght need to get into bios to make it boot off USB.... might need to wipe C drive to get past that blue screen.

Sadly no, could you tell me what should be my exact bios settings? From this link you, I created the usb media with Rufus, as "To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive for Installing Windows 10 with Legacy BIOS or UEFI" this one. I just see that blue screen without any option for troubleshoot or anything.

I have secure boot disabled as well as CSM and I disabled all other options apart from USB

what laptop is it? I want to look to see if I can figure out how to boot off USB.

i can guess that if you start PC, let it get to blue screen and then click restart and then repeat the steps twice or so, it should start automatic repair but the menu choices from it don't really help booting off USB.

You could try a reset. It might work... if you fully reset the PC its the same thing as a clean install**

Its been a while since I saw the screen but I think it offers options at the error screen. That leads to Advanced startup menu - its blue.

choose troubleshoot
choose reset this PC
choose keep files/settings (Files = library folders. Library folders = Documents, pictures, movies, music (the default folders that come with windows). Settings = logins and desktop) or just wipe them all if you were going to clean install anyway.

**well, mostly, it doesn't delete partitions but windows will be new.

Take this w10 flash stick to a working machine and make sure it boots.

If it does put a copy of memtest86 on a different flash stick and make sure it boots.

Take the memtest flash stick to the problem machine and see if it will boot and run.

Well, in the end it was my SSD (where windows was installed).0 It got corrupted data and whenever I tried to boot with windows usbs (3 in total with 3 different methods) it got stuck. And the reason for that was bootable win usb instances are always checking if there is a windows installed. Because my SSD was corrupted, it got stuck without showing anything. All that for that repair button.

**If you want to save your datas, Ubuntu bootable usb allows you to try ubuntu without installing it to your drivers. So basically, you run Ubuntu from USB.**

**If you have problem opening your disk from Ubuntu even if you see them:**

Open terminal and write

sudo fdisk -l

to list disks, /dev/sda1, /dev/sdb2, etc.

sudo ntfsfix /dev/sda1

Will allow you to open the disk from file manager. If not, try restarting.

**If even with reaching the disk, you can't seem to be finding your files:**

I was mainly looking for my Baldur's Gate 3 saves (77 hours I have put in for that character ) But they were not in the folder. So for that you can search from terminal with

find /media/mydisk1 -type f -iname "*.lsv*"

lsv is the extension for BG3 save files. You can write anything you remember from the files you are searching `*` characters allows to find similar texts. After searching, found files would be stored in a folder, like `found.000` which will be in that USB you booted Ubuntu from. Now you can copy those files even though they are not visible in file explorer/manager. And they work.
