initialize solid state hybrid drive

I have Windows 7. I bought a Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive to put in an external enclosure. I connected it to my computer using a USB3 port and cable. When i try to initialize it, I get an error message "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)." How do I fix this and initialize it or is it just bunk and I should just return it to TigerDirect?

To avoid any incompatibility, I would install it temporarily to an internal sata port and power connector. Open "Disk Management". It should show up as an un-formatted disk. Right click in the rectangle for the drive and choose format. Follow the pop-up instructions for formatting. You can partition it into smaller drives at this time if you like simply by choosing smaller than the full amount and then repeating the process with the remaining amount(s). Then you remove it and install it into the external enclosure. Perhaps there is something slightly different with hybrid drives and formatting in external enclosures, but this should work fine.

I got the same error on the same Seagate 1TB hybrid disk. Tried windows 8 tools, tried seagate disk wizard (internal incorrect script error), tried Sea tools for windows. I also tried connecting it to a Linux PC. I even tried connecting it directly to a Sata port. After spending more than 4 hours on it, I'm sending it back. It's a pity because I was hoping to speed up my sluggish Windows Laptop.

I reordered a new one. I used Discwizard to clone the disc of my Sony Vaio VPCCW2S1 (previously upgraded to Win 8.1). It failed the first time because it only copied the restoration partition. I tried a second tome with a manual cloning mode of Discwizard. I then installed the HD in the PC. It started fine with all the data. It now seems much faster at reboot, with an upgraded HD from 320 GB to 1 TB!
I'm just hoping it will be reliable in time.
