Inkjet printing purple tint photos

I have a Canon Pixma iP2500 that prints purple tint photos on photo paper, especially if the photo is a darker one. The strange thing is that printing color text comes out just fine as well as printing photos on plain paper.

This issue occurred after refilling the color cartridge because it had ran out of ink.

Is there any hope I could resolve the problem without replacing the cartridge?

Refilling with what? Official Canon ink, or from somewhere else?
Often, the aftermarket inks are not quite right.

It's a replacement ink, not official Canon one. I refilled it several times before with OK results but something must have gone wrong this time.
