What are the advantage of the corsair 500r as opposed to the 650D other than price? And would you advise putting in some additional fans? If so which ones do you recommend?
 
TBH their mid tower D series(550D 650D, not their full tower 800D and 900D) have very restricted air flow. 500R is much better airflow and is cheaper. Many fans are already included.

If you want something similar to their obsidian series, try out Fractal design define R4(made for silence just like 650D) and is cheaper. Fractal Arc midi R2 is pretty much the same thing as design define R4 but is made for more airflow.
