Hello!

I have had my current system for around 5 years. It features:

Ryzen 7 2700
GTX 1070
16gb DDR4
M.2 NVMe Storage

I am looking to upgrade some or all of these components in order to improve my 1080p performance to 144fps+ in demanding shooter games like Escape from Tarkov and Rust and maybe even good 1440p performance for other titles.

I have long since fallen out of the loop on modern personal computing innovations, so I am looking for some advice.

My current thoughts are:

No changes to ram or storage.
GTX 1070 —> RTX 3070
Ryzen 7 2700 —> i5 9600k

While I am looking for general advice, I also have a few specific concerns.

Is 3070 overkill? I am also looking for a choice that gives me some amount of longevity.

Is 9600k too slow for intensive shooter games? Would it bottleneck performance. I would plan to keep it almost permanently overclocked…

Thanks so much for any advice or input can give. Anything is welcome!

The 9600K is older tech by today's standards. I'd be looking at a B660 board + i5 12400F + DDR4 3200mhz or DDR4 3600mhz if you're going the Intel route.

i5 12400 / 12400F gaming benchmarks.
