Hi im looking to make a smaller more manageable pc that i can transport easier. ill install party games on it ect. but will aslo like to use it as my main pc down the line. so running arma 3 at 40+ is also necessary. ive put together a wishlist on amazon im more than sure everything is compatible just looking for second options really. where i should upgrade/downgrade to save on cost/performance

The requirements are fine, but honestly, your wishlist isn't up to much at all.

The CPU is dated, PSU is 'meh' quality at best etc.

Budget, I'm assuming is around 500GBP?

You'd likely need to shop around, rather than get everything from Amazon to get the best "bang for your buck".

I'd look to something along these lines - if you wanted to stick with mATX:

No dual-channel memory to save some cost...

wow thanks for the awesome list . ive not had much luck with dual core processors running arma 3 in the past it is quite cpu heavy can i ask why it is you recommend that one personally? i do have an old i7-3770k lieing around aswell i may be able to use . that smaller case looks really really good tho i might go with that. only problem is i do really want the rx480

The i3-6100 (or any i3, really) has Hyper-Threading, so will act as a quad-core - and a more efficient/powerful quad-core than the 860K. ARMA3 will recognize the i3 as a quad-core, and perform well.

That being said, if you have an i7-3770K laying around, not in use - there is zero sense investing in a new CPU (when on a budget)..... assuming you can find a compatible motherboard cheap enough (you're looking used at that point).

If you're gonna build a "portable desktop" know that desktops aren't designed to be safe to transport, ever.

If you still want to proceed, eliminate as many moving parts as you can, so drop the HDD and just max your SSD space.

Heavy cards that lie horizontally will stress the PCIE socket when the desktop is bouncing up and down during a car ride, and fans can fall out of alignment and get loud as hell after just 1 trip even if you pay attention to the system.
