I've recently connected 5 monitors to a 2010-2011 machine, and done a bunch of other things which make it impossible for me to say that my GPU had no place feeling a little pressured. I suspect it has finally given up after years of constant service.
What i'm looking for on here is a way to confirm that the GPU is in fact dead and the only piece of hardware at fault. If so, then maybe also a purchase recommendation, as my own hardware know-how is extremely lacking.
Before i get to the juicy bits, i'll mention that it would be very difficult for me to arrange testing the card in another machine, so if at all possible i would like to avoid that.
Here is the visual artifact and wild color action:
This is safe mode. The resolution is set to minimum and it won't let me change it. The artifacts are present at startup, before windows loads. The pre-boot artifacts are mainly red squares in intricate, and in a way beautiful patterns. The artifacts happen regardless of the display used and the monitors are good otherwise.
And the B(flamboyant)SOD:
The BSOD mentions atikmpag.sys and STOP: 0x00000116, and while that usually yields great troubleshooting via google, this time the only result was headache.
My current display is connected to the GPU's HDMI port, as the on-board (i think?) port is disabled (possibly?), i also had a monitor connected through an usb d-sub adapter, which was fine when the whole thing crashed for the first time.
What I've tried so far is removing the drivers, which allowed me to log on to windows and download new drivers. There were 3 options from AMD, i was able to install one of them as on the two others the installer itself was so large, that the "next" or "install" or whichever button was off-screen due to the small resolution. After installing said driver, safe mode is accessible, but regular boot results in that BSOD again. Perhaps worth a mention, that initially i tried the AMD auto-detect tool, which was unable to find any applicable GPU connected. Dxdiag doesn't display the GPU either.
That's about everything i can think of for now. If I've neglected any additional information which might prove useful, please tell me and i'll get right on it.
Can it be saved, or is it dead for good? Is anything else dead? With what, and how would i replace it?
