Insane GPU fan RPM. Hitting over 70000rpm+

That's some kind of anomaly. For sure. It could be a sensor on the mobo or GPU. It could also be software related. So check your drivers are up to date, and both HWmon and MSI are latest versions. Good idea to update bios too, in case it a sensor on the mobo.

Norma max fan speed for most aircoolers, would be about 2000-3000rpm at load, much less if idle. So 70k is just not right, obviously.

You could also try playing with the fan curve in the bios, just in case it's some old setting you can reset the bios too. and even try a CMOS reset.

Thanks for the ideas, I will give them all a try. I have it set to 100% speed for the fans just to run some test with it and it usually stays around 4000 rpm, but it still has the giant bumps in speed randomly.

Yeah that's a false reading as others state. I've never seen a PC-related fan, GPU, case, or CPU cooler, spin faster than about 3,500RPM. It's physically not possible to hit a screaming 7,000 plus RPM. That's getting up there in front jet engine fan speed (the big front fan you see on an airliner). The noise would be deafening LOL.

It physically cannot do 70,000 RPM.
If you were to somehow overspeed it to that level, it would be a choice as to which happens first...the motor burns out, or the inside of your PC is filled with little bits of fan blades as it disintegrates.

It can't even do 10% of that...7,000 RPM.

I had it on 100% just to test and see if the auto fan control was causing the weird reading. Its usually just set to auto. I updated the bios and didnt seem to have any effect. Also both msi and HWmonitor are updated. Im going to reinstall the drivers for the GPU now.
