Hello, so the problem I have here is that me and my friend have two very identical computers, and after running two different games, we noticed that the performance is very different, with a considerable 20 to 30 FPS difference staring at the same spots at the same time.

I'll be posting my PC specs below:

MSI X570-A Pro
Ryzen 7 5800X
RTX 3060 TI
DDR 4 G.Skill 3000 MHz 32GB

Now, as for my friend, the only different parts he has are the MB as well as the RAM, which are:

ATX MSI MPGB550 Gaming Edge Wifi
DDR 4 Corsair Vengrance LPX 3200 MHz 32GB

Now, I thought about the difference in the RAM speed being the biggest factor here, but I wouldn't think that it would have such a big impact in all honesty. Can anyone help me out?

Solution
RAM timings and latency would matter, anywhere from 5 to 15% (more if he did manual tuning on top of XMP.
also monitor and resolution and GPU settings would matter as well
It's not a good thing to get too caught up in the whole "same performance" trap. Every chip, every CPU/GPU, every stick of RAM are subtly different. Motherboards are made and designed with different power parameters between model, much less make. Your house could be a bit warmer. His case might flow a little better. The monitor you are using, the settings, the video cable....it's a rabbit hole. Do you best to optimize your system for smooth playability and enjoyment. Worry less about reported frame rate.

Nice rig, just play,

cpu/gpu temp and usage during the game?
brand and model of psu on each system?
His temps are definitely lower, mainly on the CPU. Could that be the reason why?

I understand that, it's just that the difference in performance is huge...

Additionally, "identical systems" are alomst certainly not running the exact same software stack at the same time.

"20-30FPS difference"...out of what?

70-100 is possibly noticeable.
170-200 is not.
It was a difference between 70-100 FPS in Borderlands 3 and a difference of 60-80 in New World
