Hey guys!

So I just bought a 4690k and just finished installing everything. I am cooling it with a CM seidon 120v.

I ran prime95 and the temps just went from 40c to 100c in literally seconds.

Now my initial thought was reseat the cooler, which I did so 3 times already. Stil under load it would hit the 100c mark.

Now my thought was maybe I got a bad cpu so RMA right? But then I tried using the stock air cooler then did a stress test again. Interestingly, my CPU temps only went above 80c after a couple of minutes.

Now question is, is it safe to say that the CM SEIDON 120v has reached it's end?

Thanks guys!

Solution
there's 2 options here:
1. you installed your liquid cooler improperly
2. your liquid cooler has malfunctioned

if you're sure you installed it correctly every time, then the problem is with your cooler.

Lol I am and let me tell you it's not that bad. Well it's not a MAXIMUS VII, but you get the jist. :)

I'm quite sure I reinstalled the cooler correctly. I reinstalled even several times. What i'm not sure though is what the malfunction is. I can feel the water flowing from the pipes so I don't think its the pump failing. What I do know is the stock cooler is performing way better than this seidon 120v.

Did you mean WASN'T tight enough? Would it be an issue if it was screwed too tight?

If that's what it is then I dont know what I am doing wrong as I have followed the manual to the latter.

Anyways its 3am here in the Philippines so I would have to call it a night and get back to it when I wake up.

Thanks for the replies guys I hope this can be fixed. :)

Update: It's fixed! :) I don't know exactly what fixed it, remounting the pump, remounting the fan, or changing thermal paste. Although I'm quite convinced it was the thermal paste cause the first thermal paste I used was kinda crappy.

Now the heat is back to normal. Im currently at 60-70c when using prime95 for 20 mins.

I just switched from amd to this intel chip and I must say that when this thing with the cooler happened I kinda wished I didn't make the switch to intel (cause of all the hassle). But now that it's fixed I couldn't be any happier going to intel! :) TDP is much better with intel therefore less heat. Now my room doesn't feel like a sauna when the system is on load.

Thanks for the help guys! :)
