Hi I just built my own gaming PC, this is new for me I haven't done it before, and I successfully ran through the bios settings and got all the peripherals set up. I made the cd drive my first boot priority and my HDD drive my second but when I try to boot up it goes to a screen that says "insert boot media and press a key" even though I have the Windows 7 operating system in the drive. I have an AMd athlon 2 270 CPU, a Biostar 8960 D+ motherboard, a sapphire Radeon HD 5450 video card, seagate 1tb hdd, 2 gigs of ram, a 480w power supply, and I've tried using 2 different optical drives that use ide cables. I have everything set up perfectly so why won't it start? I even tried loading another operating system, and still the same insert boot media screen and press a key. When I press a key it just duplicates the text!! Please help me!!!

It's not on the Hdd. It's a brand new computer that I just assembled. Anyways, I already tried making it first priority. It didn't work. : (

it sounds like he is trying to install windows 7 on a new HDD. Go back into your BIOS and in the Drives section, make sure your SATA ports are turned ON or Enabled. Make sure your SATA cables from your DVD-ROM drive and HDD are connected to SATA ports that you have turned ON and try again.

The cd drive uses ide not sata. And I already tried reconnecting all wires and everything shows up positive in bios.

Hmmm... well then I would check to see where the jumper on the DVD-Rom drive is set to..... Master/Slave/Cable Select? and make sure it is set to Master or CS

Or maybe another BIOS switch- Boot from other Device - Select IDE device??

It's on master. And what do you mean boot from another device?

When I do that, it just beeps once and loads up the insert screen. It freezes for a minute, like its doing something... Then it just seems to give up and says "insert boot media and press any key"

Okay. If it beeps once, then all is fine as far as the set up goes. Recheck you data and Power cables to the Optical drive as well as the Hdd. Again, sometimes the installation disk HAS to be in the optical drive, before you start the machine. Usually that means opening the drawer while you have power, putting in the disk and doing a restart. Sowmetimes, when the maessage comes up, you can open the drawer, insert the disk then hit a key. It varies, but it is one of the two ways as long as the DVD / CD drive is set to the first Boot Priority. Might be good to recheck that to be sure.

I tried powering it up, then inserting the disk when I got the reboot message. It didn't work. I tried taking it out and putting it back in then restarting, nothing. The cd drive is the first priority, and the power indicator on it is glowing so It's getting power. I can hear the Hdd if I listen really close, and it's working! So why am I not experiencing success? I'm not mad at you guys, I'm mad at my system. I really wanna get this thing booted.
