Hello out there, straight to the problem.

What I use:

Mainboard: Asus z87 pro (+ wifi) - wifi disabled
OS: Windows 10 Pro (problem also appears in Linux) - fresh installation, didnt install anything beside firefox and telegram and updates.
Headset: Razer something haha don't know the name, but it's working for sure (tested: yes)
(and a new sound card, but later more)

What's my problem?

>Inb4: Sound output is fine on my system.

When I connect the mircophone of my headset (pink jack in pink microphone connector), windows recognize the device in sound->recording and the moment I connect it, the soundbar also goes all the way up for a moment (50ms) and when i dissconnect it, it also changes to "not connected". But after I connected it, I can scream into the microphone and the soundbar nevers raises (not even a bit). I googled very much, so:

- yes it's setted as default (not even necessary)
- yes it's not muted
- yes microphone level is at 100% (even boost is at +30%)
- windows should have the driver for it (it worked once before, later more)
- yes i'm sure it's a gameing headset designed for pc
- yes it's not poor connection, because it works on other stations AND i have a brand new soundcard with the same problem.

The problem appeard after an Windows Update like 4 Months ago. I was talking in TS, restarted the computer, mic not working anymore. Didn't have time to troubleshoot a lot. Tried some things back then, but gave up and decided a new soundcard will do it. After i got my Soundcard yesterday (yes, had to safe money and stuff), the Asus Xonar DGX 5.1 (which drivers and software are horrible, wouldnt recommend this card to anyone), i connected it to my pc, installed the drivers etc. connect headset as described (not that I needed instruction how to do it). Same problem as with the onboard chip (just the windows sound->recording looks strange). I played a bit around with settings and so (tried frontpanel connectors and backpanel etc.), but you cant do much with this crappy soundcard. So I switched the frontpanel HD Audio connecter back to the motherboard (because I asume it's not specificly the onboard chip). So here we are at the begining again. So i googled again and did that:

- Uninstall every audio-device in the device manager and after that all devices in "audio, sound and games controllers" and then restarted computer. Didn't help.

- Unpluged my USB speaker system

- restared system multiple times...

- other little things that were so stupid that i dont remember...

After that i thought, it worked fine before the update and also worked on Windows 8.1. So I decided to downgrade to Windows 8.1, which didn't help. I also played around with Windows 8.1, but didn't help. So i installed Win10 again. After this I tried to disable the the Onboard Audio Controller in the UEFI, save and restart, enabled it again it the UEFI, save and restart. DIDN'T DO ANYTHING...

So with all my knowledge and google skills I have, I reached my limit...

Whoever solves this problem, saves my life.

I hope someone have any clue what coud be broken or which setting could case such a BAD behaviour.

Cheers kivu8

Edit #1: added some things in first listing Edit #2: problem also appears in linux...

Solution
Maybe something in this thread can help you. It's alot of reading but there's alot of different things to try in there.

Make sure the audio cord from the mic is plugged completely into the splitter. If its half way plugged in, the headphones will still work but the mic wont.

Can you test the mic somewhere else to make sure its working? If you have another mic that you can use to test to see if the PC is working that would be nice too. That way you could rule out the mic being defective.

I've read that those cheap USB stereo sound adapters will work nicely with the set that you have. They are basically a mini sound card, under $10, and have a input for mic and output for speakers/phones. I bought one a year ago to put in another PC and its still working fine.

Yeah i'm sure it's completly plugged in (yeah, there was some decent violence involved it to make sure it's completly in).

Yeah, good idea, im looking for one, but i think it strange, because on my laptop it works fine.

I bought a new graphic card just for this purpose hahahaha so i wont invest 10$ if i have an 40$ lying around ahhaha

but thx for the replay.

also a reddit user mentioned electricity, because, as i plug it in, the sound level rises for a moment... any ideas?
