Inspiron 4000 randomly shuts off

hey everyone,
i have a inspiron 4000 laptop. 850 p3, 256 ram, win xp, newest bios.
The laptop randomly shuts off by itself. Sometimes it stays on for
hours and some times it only last 10 mins. I thought it was
overheating so i installed a program to control my fan. CPU temps
says i'm at about 40 degrees. I replaced the motherboard and cpu.
(last motherboard didn't turn on) It does it both, battery or AC. any
clues?

so you've got 3 laptops doing the same things....very strange.
