Morning, All,

For several days I have been trying to resolve a windows 11 update error: Install error - 0x8000ffff.

I have found considerable help for this error on the web....unfortunately is only is for windows 10!

Anyone have any guidance on how to resolve this error??

TIA,

Larry

what specific update are you trying to install?

have you tried disabling your antivirus if you have one?
have you tried running update trooubleshooter?

you could alternatively install the update though an .ISO (image) file if its a major windows version upgrade (or other as well). you can chose to keep your apps and data so its equivalent to the windows update, except it tends to have less issues. download here > win11

MS has put out a few updates lately with similar widespread problems.
most of them have been related to Defender and have been cleared up eventually with later issued updates.

unless this update is somehow interfering with your system's performance or causing you other issues,
i would just wait until the update is fixed on their end and it will install as usual.

Trying to install 2024-02 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034848)

Actually uninstalled anti-virus when I tried again.

Update troubleshooter was of no help.

I have not tried to install via an .ISO, I suppose that is next! <thanks>

SOLVED!!

I finally to the brute force method and did an in-place upgrade of my existing Win11Pro OS. It does take a while, but it fixed my problem on updates AND my I/O is MUCH faster!
