install new sound card

I am trying to install a new sound card, but the old card is hard wired in the motherboard. How do I disable the old card?

I am assuming by hardwired you mean it is a sound chip built into the mobo.

If so, remove all support for the device from the O/S then restart the pc and go into the systems setup program (BIOS)

disable all on board Audio/AC97/Gameport entries then reboot O/S.

Should not detect any onboard audio or gameport or install any software support.

Then install sound card according to instructions.
