I want to install Windows 8.1 or higher on HP Compaq DC7700 having P4 processor 2.8 GHz (prescott) on Socket 775 LGA. It supports MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3 as shown by CPU-Z. 2GB DDR2 RAM is installed. Please help.

HP haven't released any Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 drivers for that model so I wouldn't advise it.

As you can see, the latest supported OS is Windows 7

You will very probably be searching for compatible drivers for weeks or even months if you install 8.1 or 10

If you want to have a go anyway, 10 is your best bet (better hardware support than 8.1).

However, be sure to back up your current OS first in case the upgrade doesn't work out.

It is going to work, but not smooth. I have had a 2GB ram machine running Windows (7, 8.1, 10), and it was very laggy. I upgraded it to 4GB and it worked fine, so I won't advise you to install it. If you are going to do it, 32 bit would be your best bet & drivers are hard to find, so use software like Driverpack Solution or IObit Driverbooster. If you use software for installing drivers, don't download something random, most of them have viruses or something, so please use the software I mentioned.
