Install windows issue

I have done a reset and also had the 99% for hours so I switched off computer. Turning on computer I get a message that says “computer stopped and restarted I expectedly or encountered an error. Windows install can not proceed. Restart computer and then restart installation.” When I press OK computer restarts and this message appears every time. So I installed windows 10 on a USB from my other computer. I’m not that savvy but I attached USB then managed to go into F2 and select Boot and then selected USB so the computer would hopefully open via USB port and install. I thought this process might override the message but I have had no luck. I can not get past this message. Does anyone know how th help with this please?

In your 1st post you said that if you try to boot off the USB you just get that error. We need to clean the hdd so you can run the Win 10 installer and get past that error.

In my 1st reply I said to download dbam and use it to wipe hdd - https://dban.org/

and in my last reply I showed you how to make a CD/DVD of dban since your bios can see the DVD drive in boot order.

The steps you took should be all you need to boot off USB
As mentioned; USB flash stick should be connected to the notebook.

Then you should power up the unit and should access the BIOS settings.

You can also press F12 which would enable an boot menu on the screen.

Then you could choose USB flash memory as booting source.

this is a lovely trap, if you boot off the USB the system will tell you to remove it and restart. Correct?

So when you boot off the USB, how far do you get? Do you get past the language screen?
If you get to the next screen about offering to install or repair, choose repair
If we can get here, we can cleanly wipe the hdd and erase windows so this error goes away

choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose command prompt
type diskpart and press enter
type list disk and press enter
this shows all drives available, DVD/USB and hdd, make note of hdd number
type Select disk X - where X is the number of the hdd you want to wipe, change X to that number and press enter
once the drive you want to install on is chosen, type Clean

restart PC and run the installer
Follow this guide: http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1950-windows-10-clean-install.html

is your boot drive a hdd or ssd? If its a hdd and the win 10 boot drive doesn't let you wipe the drive, try this - https://dban.org/

there are other ways but require another PC. See how you go with those 2 first.

Have you tried booting off dban and wipe drive completely? or does error message still pop up? This means its ignoring USB and there might be another setting blocking the USB from booting up.

What model Toshiba, is it a laptop?

To boot this drive after many hours of trying, sadly only because of a bug:

- Reset your bios to default settings!
- Leave Secureboot ON
- Turn Fastboot OFF
- Save settings with F10
- Hold F12 while booting to get to the boot menu, and select your USB.
It should boot!

Probably need to run dban once you can and wipe hdd to get past this message

Hi,
I have a Toshiba laptop. I have not tried booting from dban. If it is in F2 on start up I will try. Thanks for all this, hopefully it will work. I’ll let you know how I go.
