Hi guys.

I just brought a new laptop that came with a pre installed win 8.1 without any Key or a cd on it's hdd. There's only one Slot in my laptop for storage in which the HDD is.

I am replacing that HDD with an SSD amd i would like to know how will i install that original windows 8.1 on that SSD.

Solution

That Acronis software would work, but only if you can have both drives connected.
For a brand new laptop, your best bet is to clone everything from old drive to new SSD.
If you get a Samsung SSD, it comes with its own migration tool, and a cable to attach the SSD via USB for the transfer.

Just be sure to get a large enough SSD.

hmm...
I guess that depends on exactly which kit you got. I bought an 840 EVO a few months ago, and it came with the required cable.
But any USB-SATA cable would probably work.

To get the OS on the SSD, it must be connected somehow. If the laptop has only one internal space for a drive, then the SSD must be connected externally - USB.

Does the laptop have a Recovery function? Usually, that also gives you the opportunity to create a set of DVD's to reinstall with.

If you have an empty external, you can use that Acronis to create an image on the external.
Then, swap drives, and use Acronis to put that image onto the SSD as the boot drive.

Thanks!
