Install Windows on SSD, while leaving old HDD plugged in?

Is it possible to boot off a new SSD with Windows 10 on it, while leaving my old hard drive plugged in so I can transfer files?
I would obviously change the boot drive, but I'm wondering if there will be a problem, as Windows 7 will still be installed on the old HDD.

Just be sure that the Win7 drive is disconnected when you install Win10 on the SSD. After the install, just replug your Win7 drive and you're golden.

Just double checking, even with Windows 7 installed on the drive it won't interface off of it? Wish I hadn't spent the last 2 days backing up everything if I could have just plugged it in anyway XD

you can. but we always recommend just having the SSD drive. a lot of users have installed windows and still end up with it trying to boot to the DD instead of the SSD drive automatically

The other drive won't interfere since the new Win10 installation will be pointing the boot path to your Win10 startup directory. Unless you make changes to that boot path, you won't have any issues

Install Win 10 with only that drive connected.
After, reconnect the HDD and transfer what you need.
