Installation freezes

I run W98SE (upgraded online from W98).

When trying to install Upgrade XP it freezes (at around 83 minutes to
go). At a similar stage in the Compatibility Check it freezes at ("DVD
Movie Player").

How do I get past this point? I assume that XP will, when installed, use
its own dvd player.

(I have never even played dvds!)
