installation of windows8 on desktop

You probably can, but I wouldn't recommend it, as it will most likely run very slow. You're best off with sticking to XP or getting a new computer.

It does. Not smooth when you install and use a bunch of software, but it does run on 1GB.

You'll be running the bare minimum. I wouldn't recommend installing a OS that is more expensive than you're entire PC.
