I just put Win2000 pro on my machine:
k6-2 500, 256megs, AGP Asusv6600 Ge-Force 256 32meg , Creative Ensoniq 128, 2 standard network cards.
I would get an installation hang at the hardware detection sequence 2 times before i decided to pull out my network cards, and tried again...same hang.
so i put the network cards back in and replaced the Ge-Force with (get this!) an ISA 0.5meg Trident...same hang.
So I tried yet AGAIN, without the network cards, or sound card - just the Ge-Force...hang.
I try once more (thoroghly pissed by now) with JUST the Trident video card. and it works! WTF?
What the heck would I have done without a mobo that has ISA slots? I don't own a PCI video card.
however- besides the installation problems, I've never seen a more stable OS. I'm impressed!

See my other post. I bet it's the same Via Tech 8598 CPU to AGP controller problem. Check your install log file, its placed in C:\ on your disk.
Some say update the bios, I haven't verified if that works. There's also something about hitting F6 during install and installing manufacturer drivers (Via 4in1,(haven't tried yet either).

F6 during install is for raid or scsi drivers, but i guess you could install agp drivers if you had to, never tried it.

You may also want to try turning the PnP OS setting in the BIOS to "Yes" before installation so W2K can have its way with resource settings. I had the same problem, hanging during hardware detection sequence, and this fixed it.

I got used to setting PNP OS to "no" in the bios, for win98, since the mobo was more efficient at allocating it's resourses than windows was. So if Microsoft fixed this issue with win2k then right on, however, I sincerely doubt it...
