Hello everyone,
A few days ago I finished building my first custom computer. However, I seem to be having problems with the amount of RAM I installed. I put two XMS 3 8gb cards in, but it only uses 8. I am currently using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and I was told that it could use up to 16 gb. I would really appreciate it if I could get some help with this.

Strange.

Possibly one stick is defective, or not seated well.
For less than a full complement of sticks, there are specific slots which must be used first. Check your motherboard manual.

Run cpu-Z. On the memory tab, it will show the total amount of ram.
On the SPD tab, you can select each of the 4 slots to see what is installed in each.

Well they seem to be seated in there quite fine. However, I'm not sure how to tell if one is faulty.
