Installed 16gb (2x8gb) RAM, system shows only 8gb

Solution
If you installed 16MB and got 8GB you should be extremly happy :D

jokes aside tho :)

Take them out, and plug them back in. Maybe you have not pressed one module all the way into the DIMM slot.

EDIT:

Use CPU-Z to see if the DIMM slot you are using are listed. If not there is your problem.

Try different DIMM slots if the problem is still there, since there is a slight chance that the DIMM slot could be damaged.

Question from okcfireman : "Motherboard reads 16mb PC3 10600 as 8gb PC3 10700"

What does your BIOS splash screen show?
If this only shows 8gb, then:
Try booting to the bios screen with only 1 DIMM. Does it show up?
Try it again with only the other dimm. Does it show up?
If both dimms show up on their own, try putting the 2nd dimm in another slot. For example, if you are using slots 1 and 2, try 1 and 3.

Are you using on board video? If so, how much ram did you reserve for video?

In windows, open msconfig and see if you have set a maximum amount for your available ram?
