Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

Sys Specs:
MSI M7 Gaming Z170a Motherboard
i7 6700k
32gb G.Skill TridentZ RAM (4x8gb) @ 3200
Asus Strix GTX 1080ti OC
FrescoLogic USB PCI-e hub
Samsung 850 evo (OS drive in m.2_1 slot)
Samsung 980 (Installed in m.2_2 slot)

Motherboard Manual: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1104976/Msi-Z170a-Gaming-M7.html#manual
Pages 34-36 cover M.2 slots and M.2/Sata combinations

Current setup:

Issue: I purchased a Samsung 980 m.2 ssd and added it to my PC by installing it in the m.2_2 slot. It shows up fine in windows and Samsung Magician however its only benchmarking at roughly 900MB/s Read and 860MB/s Write.

I've tried re-seating it with no change. I don't know if there's a setting I'm missing or what. I double checked and SATA5 & SATA6 ports are empty on the mobo like the diagram shows above. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you installed the specific driver for this 980?

Is it the 980, or 980 Pro?

Thanks for the reply! It's just the base 980, not the pro. I can't find a driver for it, all the other versions like 970 and below have NVMe drivers but the 980s don't. I've read online that Samsung hasn't released a driver for it and that they just use the Windows NVMe driver.

The NotPro 980 is equivalent speed to the 970.
(idiot naming convention)

But it should still bench faster than 900/862.
