I had 2 x 1GB Mushkin RAM installed. I ordered 2 x 2GB of Crucial RAM to install...boosting my total to 6GB of RAM. After I installed the 2 x 2GB, the total recognized went from 2 GB to 3GB.?.?

I'm running:

MSI P6N SLI PLATINUM LGA 775 NVIDIA nFORCE 650i SLI ATX INTEL MOTHERBOARD
MUSHKIN 2 x 1GB 240-pin DDR2 --- PC2-6400
CRUCIAL 2 x 2GB 240-pin DDR2 --- PC2-6400

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6400 CONROE 2.13GHz LGA 775

Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Assuing you are using a 32-bit OS, you ran into the RAM limit right at 3GB.

A 32-bit OS can only address 2^32 (4GB) or memory at any given time. However, the motherboard, OS, and GFX Card all eat up a portion of RAM, so most users will have between 2.75 snf 3.25 GB RAM avaliable for use.

Make sure your BIOS (OS independent) recognizes all the RAM. If so, then it is clearly the case of the OS not being able to use it all.

If your OS is 64-bit, or your BIOS does not see all the RAM, then run a few memory tests to make sure the RAM is functioning properly.
