Installed ga-p55-usb3 motherboard and reusing HDD but OS not being detected

Hello,

I've installed a new mobo Gigabyte ga-p55-usb3, CPU i5-760, Corsair TX650W PSU and Corsair Vengeance 6Gb 3x2 DDR3 RAM into an old Packard Bell iPower j8810 case and I'm wanting to keep the HDD's that came with original system, but when the system gets past the POST and running the BIOS it gives me an error saying can not detect operating system and frezzes up.

I know one way to maybe get around this would be to install a new OS from scratch but there are files on the HDD's I need.

the HDD's are seagate baracuda 7200.10 320Gb, I thought they may have been set to run in a raid, but it's saying there's not one set on the HDD's.

Any help would be great.

If it's a new motherboard, you need to re-install the OS.

If there are files on the HDD that you need, then you need to slave it into another computer and copy the files off the HDD before the re-install. There really isn't any other way

If I install a new drive and put the OS on to there and then add in the old HDD's would that essentially be doing the same as you suggest?

Is it an OEM version of windows?

If the answer is yes, you may not be able to register windows after the install at all. OEM versions of windows are tied to the motherboard. When replacing an old motherboard with a new one -- say you had to RMA it because it died and got a new motherboard from the same manufacturer and the same model -- you have to call them up via phone and contact tech support and they walk/talk you through it. windows OEM editions are tied to the specific motherboard you first installed/registered windows to.

On the other hand, if you have a completely new motherboard (different manufacturer/model) then you've broken the OEM agreement and the OEM version of windows will not work.

I've heard of cases where they let it slide, but I've also heard cases where they tell you to either buy a new OEM version or a full version of windows.

I guess what I'm saying is... good luck =P If it doesn't pan out, go Linux and grab one of the numerous versions of windows that can do everything that windows requires (mainly gaming).
