Hi all,

I just had my computer built at a computer hardware store. Don't have the patience to do it myself. Anyhow I noticed they installed my graphics card in the second PCI slot??

I read the second and third slots only use 8 pins, instead of 16 which means a decrease in performance.

So my questions are...

1. Does it make much of a difference??

2. Should I just move it up to the first slot, closest to the CPU?

3. Can I just move it up without having to uninstall the drivers or anything to do so???

Cheers
AJ

Not 8pins or 16pins....16x and 8x is just memory bandwidth telling you how much information can be sent at once.
But on PCIe 3.0 and even on 2.0 a powerful card like 290x or 780ti will not even saturate a 8x pcie 2.0...
The motherboard is the new ASUS Maximus VII Formula ... Do you know if it makes a difference on this board ?? I can't seem to find much info on this board yet.. Just reviews.

I use a R9 270 and either 2.0 4x or 16x makes no difference in performance for the reason I mention.

Also if you are using sli or xfire configuration it really doesn't matter how fast the top lane is, even if its 16x multiple card will force everything to run on 8x.

Naturally everyone would advise putting your first card in 16x because thats the primary slot for gpus and usually is the top pcie lane. But performance wise no difference.
