Gents:

Running 1240/MSI-gd55 & NV_430 system. Previously ran UBUNTU_12.04 & SUSE & SL ... so hardware is sufficient to support Linux.

DLoad (.iso), burn and installation to boot-HDD of MINT_15 x64 w/codec proceeds without issue. Std questions appear during install which I answer. I can **see** the installed file system from the DVD. From BIOS I can tell that MINT was installed to boot-HDD. All should be well.

Yet BSOD when I turn on the system ... no boot and/or no graphics display!

Debian install pulled the same stunt ... amateur distro installer?? Anyrate, unless my HW has gone titsup life is too short for this OS crap. Suggestions ... beside returning to UBUNTU?

SK:

No I do not get to a Grub boot menu. Attempting boot to the HDD I get a black screen and **no** hard-drive activity; that's all.

Only when I boot from the install DVD can I see that all(?) MINT files and file-system have been installed. Of-course that does me no good.

You seem to enjoy making things difficult for yourself. Just reinstall grub2 from the live cd/dvd (http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/245)

I am surely the thickest cove on this frigate, but I do not know **what it means** to re-install GRUB-2, as I was not aware of it being installed ... it automagically appears with all the other (hidden) stuff. I would not know GRUB if it kicked my *zz!

Anyrate I bungged MINT as a poser (like Debian) and re-installed UBUNTU_12.04. It installed and booted 1st time without a whimper. Just worked .. a pal-in-the-business etcetcetc. I brought down GNOME so the GUI isn't p*ssy cartoonish Unity. Then I grabbed Synaptic PM and WINE . Just like ol' times ...

Need to test camera/printer/2nd HDD .... Over the next week I can reconstruct a useful, familar boring Linux system and swear-2-gawd I will **NOT** install MATE! GNOME Classic is perfectly harmless! The saying is never more true in this post-mod *nix landscape:

"In the country of the blind the one-eyed man is king".
