I just installed a msi 290x twin frozr and after about 10 minutes of use the screen freezes and the pc restarts to the mobo splash screen, it then proceeds to perform a disk scan and repair on drive D and loads back into windows.
I have tried uninstalling drivers ( with driver sweeper) I have checked temps, I have tried a different psu, I have reinstalled windows.
Also, when I connect my second display, it is in greyscale.

specs:
Evga 650w g1

MSI R9 290X

AMD Bulldozer FX 6100

12GB RAM

Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 MoBo

2TB WD Black HDD (Drive D)

160GB WD Caviar Blue (Drive C)

Windows 8.1 Pro

well, I tried installing the latest multiple different times (and un installing between each) and that didn't work, so I have tried previous ones which also haven't worked.

If it helps, it is working without any drivers installed.

I had a 5850 I ended up having to exchange that exhibited similar symptoms.

It seems like it would be a driver issue since it runs fine with no driver installed, but it may not just be that.

Make sure you motherboard's BIOS is upgraded to the most recent release. This will insure maximum hardware compatibility. After you do that and install the latest drivers, you should have some success. If it still gives you trouble, return/exchange it.

So, I have found this thread : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2424500/amd-290-crashing-asus-m5a78l-usb-motherboard.html and I shall try the solution, If it helps, the system works fine with my 7970 ( which I have now sold) also, the card is the replacement of one I have already rma-ed
