recently I upgraded the heatsink on my pc from a corsair h60 to a Thermaltake 240 floe. Build went great except my h60 took my fx 8320 out of the socket with it.. checked CPU no bent pins.. ( I confirmed its in working order with a 2 second boot and the chip produced heat.)
I finish my build and go to power it on... everything runs all lights/fans/etc but no POST, not even error beeps.
I have tested a known good gpu and I bought a new Psu from best buy, rewired everything, still no post...
reset cmos.. no post
one stick of ram in.. no post
no gpu.. can't even get post codes for missing gpu
the only time it makes any noise or any sign of life is if I take all the RAM out and fire it up.. then I get the 3 beeps indicating missing RAM.

build;
thermaltake Flo 240
fx 8320
msi gaming 990fxa
Asus strix gtx 970 / (known good) power color devil r9 270
corsair tx800
g skill ripjaws 8gb (2x4gb)1600mhz DDR3

It wouldn't post and some people say it wouldn't beep either with a bad CPU so make sure it's really dead before giving up...
The three beeps without RAM is a good indication everything is OK except RAM is missing but that indicates everything else is OK... the blank display can be caused by different HW issues but most commonly by BIOS corruption so if the reset didn't correct it, maybe you didn't allow it enough time to reset so follow these instructions for a propper reset and if it doesn't help, a BIOS recovery may do it.

Option A) Bios reset:
1. Remove AC power or turn off the PSU
2. Remove the battery
3. Move the BIOS jumper to pins 2 & 3
4. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
5. Wait 10 minutes
6. Revert 1 through 3 and try the computer

Option B) Bios recovery:
1. Remove AC power or turn off the PSU
2. Remove the battery
3. Remove the BIOS jumper
4. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
5. Wait 10 minutes
6. Revert 1 through 3 and switch the computer on.

thanks for all the help guys, it turns out whilst removing the old heatsink the CPU was partially unseated and stayed that way after installation of the new heatsink. I suspect on boot due to it being half seated it ruined the cpu, as after I seated it all the way the computer posted and gave me 5 beeps.. the code for bad processor.

It was time to ditch AM3+ anyways and I am on a ryzen 5 1600 now
