Hi -

Installed a new modem:

ARRIS SURFboard SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem

Called Comcast and had them register the modem and reset it from their end. Could not get it to work while it was hooked into my router which is a:

Cisco Linksys E1000

When I plug the modem directly into my PC, I have connectivity, so I know the modem is working as is the signal from Comcast.

I've tried rebooting the router and the modem several times to no avail.

I've heard that maybe I need to factory reset the router which I'll try next after poking around a bit tomorrow.

Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this? Or if these two pieces of hardware are not compatible?

Eventually I'm going to get a 802.11ac router (looking at the Asus RT-AC68U AC1900 802.11ac) as well as a new wireless adapter (looking at the ASUS PCE-AC68) as my current wireless adapter is no longer supported by the manufacturer...had to "trick" Windows 10 into accepting the driver as a matter of fact.

But I digress.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas. Open to suggestions on a new router and wireless adapter as well.

Thanks!

The modem and router should work just fine together.

My ideas for you:

1) Confirm that you are using a known to work ethernet cable between the SB6141 modem and the Linksys E1000 router. (Use good quality 5e cable.)

2) Make sure that you have firm connections between the modem network port and the router's WAN port.

3) Here is a link to the user guide:

http://setuprouter.com/router/cisco/linksys-e1000/manual-1492.pdf

Do a factory reset and start everything over.

Always good to preview the guide and have your desired settings (e.g., SSID) all decided beforehand.

Follow the setup process carefully and be sure to give the router time to do what it needs to do. Get the router working wired and then wireless.

Keep a list of the choices you make during setup. Note any errors that show up, especially the error code(s) if you get one.

Post any further problems according.
