Hi all,
Today I installed a new motherboard (msi mpg z490 gaming edge wifi) and cpu (i5 10600k). When I boot up my SSD, it does the spinning windows dots and then just a black screen, but i can still see and move my mouse.
I tried to do reboot into safe mode from the windows recovery environment, but that just displayed a black screen too, but with no mouse.
I can boot my other HDD just fine and see all my SSD's files, but the HDD doesn't get internet, could be because I haven't booted to it in like 3 years.

Thanks in advance for help.

Welcome to the forums 😀.

you cannot simply replace the motherboard and leave the windows install alone. it may work for a bit with issues, it may be very unstable, or it may not even boot as you see. the motherboard is one board but many devices, the USB system, the power system, the audio system, the graphical system, the I/O ports, the networking system, etc.

what you did was akin to what Frankenstein did to his monster, the brain (the windows install) does not fit and is not meant to work with the parts.

if there is data you need to save on the SSD I suggest you backup said data, before continuing,
after the backup of important data windows will need to be re-installed with the proper drivers and settings for the new motherboard...

Alright that makes sense, probably should have looked into it a bit more. Thanks for the advice!
