hi again, i'm having the same problem as several months back when i built my first computer. i have installed a new i3 7th generation processor into my setup, and the system boots but will not display the windows start screen. by boot, i mean the fans spin and the drives all start - i can hear them! but even though i have it all plugged in and working, there is no welcome screen for windows?

please help!

intel i3 7th generation processor
msi mortar b150m motherboard
asus geforce gt 710 2Gb videocard
8Gb ddr4 hyperx ram
soundblaster audigy internal soundcard
evga 750 psu
seagate 500 Gb HDD
western digital 500 Gb HDD
toshiba 500 Gb HDD

Solution
Yes, clear CMOS like was suggested above. Do so by pulling the power cable from the wall or switching off the PSU, then pull the CMOS battery from the motherboard. Wait two minutes and press the power button for ten seconds while waiting to clear residual power. Put the CMOS battery back. Plug it back in, power on, enter BIOS, reset default settings, save, restart, back into bios, set any desired custom settings. Save, restart.
In the back of the manual will be instructions for installing a new bios, i.e. updating it.
The slightly odd thing is that your mobo, almost uniquely in my experience, does not state what bios version is needed for what CPU.

vrumor, am I reading that wrong?

If you look here: https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/B150-PRO-GAMING-D3/HelpDesk_CPU/
You'll that all of the 6's are supported by the 0405 version of the bios, but you need the 2203 to use 7 series. I can't see that for MSI. It could be that it is a new mobo, that was designed and built after 7 series was released, and hence is already uptodate.

The new bios is in the right hand column 7972vC9.zip

ok. well, the motherboard is an ''msi'' b150m mortar motherboard. not an asus. i assume if i have connected the ethernet cable to the router it will download automatically? will it not?

No it will not. Look at the first link in my message, read the message, Asus was an example, your MSI version is also there, assuming you've told us the right mobo.

MERGED QUESTION
Question from shaneleah29 : "replacement CPU, reboot bios."

did you update the bios to support 7th gen?

yes. i have downloaded the bios update from the manufacturers website, put it on a flash drive and inserted it. i've even pressed the delete key, f11 and enter - as directed in the motherboards' manual. still no response.

well, i'm out of options! i've left the thing for 2 days now hoping that my new set up will somehow boot and re-establish my faith in my computer. its all connected, i've followed the instructions as posted here and in my manual. any advice will be taken!

As has been said before, you need to update the bios, to do this you need to use a 6th cpu, then you can change to the new cpu. Instructions on updating the bios are in your manual, you already have the file on a stick, so you are most of the way there.

i have done as you asked and reinstalled the pentium G4400. minus fan [make it quicker to replace processor]. i've pressed delete key, f11 and enter - as instructed in the manual. will it boot now?
