Installed new SSHD, how do I get it to work now? (screenshot included)

Hello guys,

I bought a new 2TB SSHD for additional storage, I have a 250gb ssd as a boot drive. I installed it into the PC fine, but I've never done this before so I have to idea how to get a new drive to work.

The sshd is not showing in 'devices and drives' but it is visible in the windows disk management app (shown in pic).

You 're on the right track, you have to initialize it in disk management. Follow the default options (GPT) and proceed.

Thanks, I had initially selected MBR. I right clicked and selected 'convert to GPT' after seeing your comment and created a 'simple volume' with all the space in the drive. It now shows up and seems to be working fine. Is this alright or should I have created multiple partitions?

It depends on how you are going to utilize the disc. If you are going to install you OS on it, the OS will make it's system reserved partition on its own. For the time it's just a simple volume
Edit: Just saw it's for storage, sorry. You can partition the drive at any time in disk management as long as there is a reason for it.

Did'nt notice it and had an edit on my previous answer. No, there are no drawbacks, not in performance. It's a long discussion on partitioning the SSD. Some say it can expand it's life when partitioning by leaving some partiotions empty, but i cannot provide any proof on this.

It is much simpler to manage a single large partition.
You did things properly.
