Hello- I've been beating my head against the wall over this for sometime now and can not seem to come to a conclusion as to why this is happening.

Hardware;
Asus Crosshair Formula V
AMD 8350 FX
Patriot Viper Black edition 1866 x16 GB (x2 8GB)
7970 OC edition Gigabyte
1000W OCZ PSU

Windows 10 64bit

Ok; so whats going on is that I have 16 GB installed and windows acknowledges this- however it only reads 7.95 as total physical memory

Things I have tried;
MEMTEST64 - no errors
CHKDSK- no errors

Enabling Memory remapping in BIOS
Enable max memory in MSCONFIG

none of these things have fixed this issue and I have grown weary of what this could be.

I game alot on this computer and I believe this is root of some recent issues I have been experiencing; after about 20 minutes of gameplay- I drop from a solid 60+ fps to 0 momentarily and then it resumes- a simple reboot fixes this everytime- though after another 20 minutes or so I have to reboot again- this is where I seem to think RAM is causing the issue as it may not be enough being utilized? or is not dumping properly

Also, not sure if it is worth mentioning- but I have a paging file setup on another HDD at around 16GB

Thank you for any help with this- it is much appreciated

Solution
Well we tried basically everything, I've never yet seen this not be the solution to this problem. And based on your past issue i would recommend against messing around in msconfig.
Did the ram come as a kit? Or 2x separate sticks.
I'd try reseating the ram first, memtest will probably show no errors on the ram tested, which might be just a single stick.
Don't understand how Windows can acknowledge 16gb installed but only show 8gb installed at the same time, it should show 16gb installed if it's acknowledged 16gb.
For optimal performance, Asus recommends slots #2-#4 but if this is an issue with the slot, you can use #1-#3 with no noticeable loss.
Run cpu-z, check the SPD tab, if both sticks are viable, it'll show up there, as read by the bios. If only 1 stick is showing as installed, it's either a bad seat or bad slot

Oh, can't see personal images. You need to use 3rd part web hosting like gyzmo or postimg.org

Thanx for the quick reply-

It came as a kit so they are identical modules-
I've reseated them several times tried switching slots and everything- I ran in dual channel slots then switched to off channel and back again

I tried attaching a picture of system information but it didn't post ill tryy and reply with a upload to tinyurl or something

Sorry, been doing research.
Try this, has worked for some ppl with the same issue on Asus boards.
Power down the pc.
Pull out the ram sticks.
Pull plug from wall.
Pull cmos battery
Count to 60
Put battery back in.
Put ram back in.
Put plug back on wall
Push the MemOK button and hold for @2 seconds, light should start blinking.
When light goes constant screen should ask to go F1 for bios, then hit F10 to save MemOK changes.

Seems your ram is maybe slightly incompatible at its current settings, so the board needs to change the ram to fit.

Hopefully this'll fix it. If not, try to flash the latest bios and retry the above.

how much ram is showing as hardware reserved? look in task manager/performance/memory tab, its on the right side under form factor. Is windows showing right amount of slots being used?

windows is more sensitive to ram problems than even memtest can find. How long did you let memtest run for?

MEMok! didnt work sadly-

Taskmanager is only reading 7.95 just as system information is throwing aside from the physical installed part

I dont know if this picture need to be redacted

Sure it does, highlighted section towards the bottom.
OK, try this.
On bios, find the DRAM voltage, manually set it for 1.57v
Find cpu/nb or VCCIO voltage and manually set it to 1.25v

What this'll do is give the ram and memory controller a little more juice to work with.

In the system configuration, boot tab, advanced boot options, top right corner uncheck maximum memory and manually set the memory size to 16Gb.

Try the first, then try 2nd. Make sure to F10 and save the changes to bios.

Sorry, didnt realize you replied- didn't get an email notification

Will try forst thing tomorrow morning EST-

I've been a bit hesitant OC anything on my pc as I can't afford to replace anything atm, but will try and see what happens

Thanx again to continuing to help me with this

And I dont understand what you mean Colif-

The screenshot was including (before I deleted it) the RAM usage in format of *used%/total*

Its the second or third box of taskmanager-performance tab

Under heavy load it generally reads 5x% out of 7.95GB

Now my [watch your language] computer is bricked

System restore no points
System repair can't repair the problem
How the hell do undo the changes to msconfig from startup faulure screen

MERGED QUESTION
Question from Amaze904 : "System unable to start after adjusting msconfig"

Do you have the installation media that came with the machine (Windows 10)?

Can you go back into the BIOS and eliminate the setting changes you made? Set it all back to stock, lets work from there.

Next, has the RAM ever worked properly? I suspect not. What this issue is is nothing discussed in this thread before, but we commonly see it here (with 8 core FX Processors). Bent CPU pins. You need to pull your processor and check for bent pins and GENTLY straighten them out.

Lets get you booted back into windows first though and work from there.
