Om my HP P-7 desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium, I installed a Samsung 850 EVO SSD, using the Samsung Migration software as well as the Samsung "Magician" software to optimize the SSD. It appears that disabling Windows Backup and Recovery is an integral part of the optimization process. The explanation is that it prevents Scheduled Backups, thus preventing having the SSD write to itself. That said, I expected to be able to configure the disablement to apply to only the Backup Scheduling function. But, the disablement, at this point, applies to all backup and recovery functions.
The Samsung Magician "help" info makes it appear that I can shut off this disabling function, but I cannot find a way. I'm really puzzled, because this is such a popular upgrade and many, many people report using the migration (cloning) and optimization software with great results...no mention of Windows Backup and Recovery disablement. I need help with this since I cannot afford to go without backup. Any help would be most appreciated.

I found the same thing.
I uninstalled magician and was able to restore the system restore function.
I find it very worthwhile to recover from any sort of a software error.

I think the "tweaks" were perhaps valid when ssd prices were higher and endurance was more of a concern. About the only "tweak" worth anything is to disable disk defrag which windows does automatically once it senses you have a ssd.

Thanks Ironsounds and geofelt. I tried uninstalling Magician and followed normal protocol to recover Backup and Recovery function, but I kept getting an error that a necessary file could not be found. I then recloned the SSD as before, using Samsung's Migration software and voila, the Windows Backup and Recovery function has been restored. This time I did not download Samsung's Magician software. Thanks for that tip. I shut off the scheduled defrag and also verified that Trim is working.
