Installed SP2 On XP now No boot

Thats why SP2 is not good. Too many bugs. My dad insisted on installing it on his comp, so I did. But first, I used the network and Norton Ghost and made an image of his drive. Then installed SP2. Luckily the installation went OK, but SP2 likes to freeze during install, which causes a host of problems. I think your only option would be to reformat and put XP SP1 back on.

SP2 works fine for me, and a bunch of other users on the forum.

SP2 is solid for me. Infact, I noticed performance and stability improvements with it.

Hey guys, DAVE is at least correct about SP2 being buggy as hell. Im happy for all three of you that have XP SP2 running good on your systems, but there are a ton of systems that Sp2 just wont be very nice to. My system is one of these unlucky ones. I tried talking to micrsoft, but that was a joke. Here is one of the chat sessions that I had with Microsoft. Be sure to read over the conversation, it lasted for aprox 35 mins. Dont take this the wrong way, I just wanted to let yall know that SP2 is problematic for many people. I'm goona go with guy reading off a card in a chat session instead of in a phone conversation. I guess people start at reading a card in chat session support, go to reading off card for phone support, then do phone support with out a card because they have it memorized 
I sorta feel sorry for em, they are monitored so they have to do those bs things even if they are a waste of time bec they will get fired otherwise. I have a few friends who did phone support for a while, they said it was the worst job in the entire world.

It sure is frustrating though. I have both the XP PRO and XP home versions. BTW both are legal. I have tried everything that I know to try and cant get XP to stop hanging at the XP logo. Oh well.

Oh yes! I have run test and looked on each manufactures website including microsoft. The memory is defintely not the problem. The two things that I lean towards it being are the BIOS or the Video Card. The Video card in new its an ATI 9600XT and I think that Crashman has a video card similiar and he also has the same board. I have reflashed the Bios but still the same issue. I have tried upgrades and new installs on different HD's but nothing works. What is Slipstreaming, I have heard about it and was going to try that if it could possibly help.

You would need a working sp2 machine to slipstream I believe. It is basically making a windows install disc that already has sp2. I've never done it so I have little or no idea how it works. It "might" help you though.

This is probably a bad idea but what about formating a HD and installing XP SP2 on another system. Then take that HD and put it back in the new one? I guess that there would be Bios issues. What do you think?

Well, you have tried just about everything else. If you have another system with a similar motherboard it "might" boot in your machine. Moving a hard drive from one machine to another is very hit and miss but I guess it is worth a shot. If you do the install on a machine with a completely different chipset from your own there prettymuch is no way it is going to work.

Check out tacktech.com... they have a great article on slipstreaming. You don't need SP2 installed to do this. All it takes is an original XP CD (any version... doesn't need to be SP1) and the full net admin download of SP2.
Tacktech also has blank bootable ISO files for creating bootdisks... comes in very handy when creating Windows CDs.
